News & Events
Summer is right around the corner and the pool will soon open. We continue to be a dynamic and growing club. I am excited about the number of new members we have and look forward to meeting all of you soon. For existing members, please introduce yourself, and go out of your way to help make everyone feel welcome. As always, opening day is the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. So mark your calendars for Saturday May, 26th at 9:00 am. That first jump in the water is often only for the bold and the young, but it is always fun!
Your board members have been busy all off season making necessary repairs and updates to the club, some that you can see and others that are less obvious, but here is a short list of the highlights:
- New playground equipment for children ages 3 to 10
- New benches around the pool
- New filters, skimmers, and expansion joint caulk have been installed that will further enhance an already our beautiful water quality.
- Cleaned and repaired front tennis courts
- Cleaned and refreshed grounds – Chris Crowell, our grounds chair, would like to extend a special thank you to all the members who came out and volunteered on grounds day. Your hard work makes such a difference to our club and is greatly appreciated.
This year we are introducing HMSTC spirit wear and gear (magnets, koozies – for cans only-, and Tervis cups). Members will be able to purchase all items online. Some of the gear will also be available for purchase at special events. ALL profits go to the capital campaign account to build a new pool!
Thank you, and I hope to see you all soon,

Please log-in to your account as soon as possible to pay your 2018 membership dues. Please double check the names and birth dates of your children. You can also add additional email addresses for those that want to receive notices from us. You may need to delete family members who are no longer active or add children/new members to your invoice. To ensure our gate guards can verify you as a member at check-in, please upload a photo for each member on your account. Please take a moment to include Emergency Contact information as well. We are required to have this on file. If you have any questions or need assistance with any changes please contact Ryan Kennedy at firstname.lastname@example.org
May 19th Waitlist Offers
If you plan to be an active member in 2018, please makes sure all dues and late fees are paid no later than May 18th. We have many families interested in joining and should we have a waitlist, we will begin offering unpaid memberships on May 19th. You can access your account at www.hollinmeadows.org and use the instructions you received through email. If you need assistance, I am happy to help.
For summer of 2018, we will sell guest credits online. Guest credits must be purchased in advance of bringing guests to the pool. You will need to purchase guest passes before you arrive to the pool. No money can be accepted at the pool. Guest credits will immediately be added to your account and available when you bring a guest to the front desk.
Most of you are already aware that we have rolled out a new web-based membership interface, known as Member Splash. The system replaces our old paper-driven process for membership information, invoices, and the check-in process at the pool and allows you to manage your own account, upload pictures, change passwords, update your membership profile, family information, contact information, and order packs of guest passes at a discounted rate. The system also allows members to pay their annual dues and event fees online with a credit card or PayPal account.
Member Splash will make payments easier, allow for faster check-ins for members and guests at the front desk, give you the ability to make changes to your profile, and make signing up for social events, swim lessons, tennis, and volunteer activities seamless.
As part of our ongoing efforts to keep members engaged and up-to-date, HMSTC is on Facebook, Twitter: @HMSwimandTennis, and Instagram: @hmswimandtennis. We will be using our social media platforms to share information on pool happenings, social events and member updates throughout the season. Members can take advantage of HMSTC social media accounts to share photos, updates and more with each other using #HMSTC. In addition, you can always check on the latest newsletters and information at www.hollinmeadows.org
HMSTC Emails in Junk Mail
Members report that many of our emails end up in junk or social filters mail. We are working to fix that but in the meantime, please be diligent about checking junk folders for our emails as well as following us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and the Website. Everything you need to know will always be posted there.

As a reminder, all children under the age of 16 are required to have a parent or responsible adult present at all HMSTC social events.
We look forward to another exciting summer at the pool. Your SAFETY is our #1 PRIORITY. Please read, understand, and follow the rules they are in place to make your time at the pool SAFE and FUN. If, at any time, you have questions about the rules or concerns about the operation of the pool, please contact me or any board member.
I am happy to share that we have made some great upgrades to some mechanical systems this off season. As a result of a ‘leak test’ we found we had some small leaks (not uncommon) around seven skimmers but thank fully no big leaks were found. We also noticed that we had some sand entering the pool. The cause of the sand was a broken ‘lateral’ in one of three older sand filters. Therefore we replaced the seven skimmers around the pool, three sand filters in our pump room, and replaced the expansion joint caulking in the pool. This should make a clean pool even cleaner and help improve our water quality.
After meeting and negotiating with three different pool management companies over the last seven months we are pleased to say that we once again chose High Sierra for our Pool Management Company. They have really done a great job in the off season to make your pool the BEST, CLEANEST, SAFEST Pool in the area.
HMSTC Pool Operations Chair
High Sierra Pools, Inc. will serve as our pool management company this year. High Sierra provides lifeguards, chemicals, equipment, maintenance, etc. of our management company. Please do your part to look out for the safety of yourself, your children, and others, and adhere to the direction of our staff. If you are 15 or older and interested in becoming a lifeguard, please let Matt Parks know ASAP at 571-438-8609 so he can direct you to High Sierras Human Resource Department. This year High Sierra has extended to our members a discounted training rate of $60 (normally $120). You must be at least 16 years old (15 for part time work only), pay starts at $8/hour, and your certification last 3 years.
Pool Passes and Guest Regulations
Members will be checked in using our new our Member Splash. Gate Guards will use your picture to verify your identity so kindly upload your family members’ pictures to your account. Remember, our guest policy is intended to allow you to share your pool with visiting relatives and friends. It is not intended for repeated use for the same guest or in order for another family to avoid paying membership dues. Violations will result in loss of privileges for the member and a $100.00 fine per occurrence. Guest fees are $5 per person per day. An adult member must accompany and sign in any guests that come to the pool. Your cooperation is appreciated.

All those under 16 must vacate the pool for that 30 minute period. Be aware that our swim team practices 4:30- 7:00 pm in the lap lane area, but other areas of the pool are open to the general membership. Please be aware that the pool is closed for general swimming during home swim meets (see dates on the Swim Team schedule) until 12:00 noon on Saturdays and after 5:00 pm on Mondays, and closes early for the Adult Party on one Saturday in July.
Members may hold their child’s Birthday Party at the pool on weekdays if requested and approved in advance. Weekend or Holiday birthday parties are not allowed. Send requests at least a week in advance via e-mail to email@example.com for our calendar review prior to sending out your invitations. Other events (sports parties, office parties, school events, daycare groups, etc.) are not permitted.
A RULES REMINDER: 1) NO GLASS CONTAINERS – there are lots of people who are barefoot – if something made of glass breaks it’s requires an extensive cleanup and could affect the operations of the pool. 2) NO CHEWING GUM – please no gum at the pool even in the ice-cream – we don’t want to clean it up and it’s unsafe to have gum in your mouth while swimming. 3) NO PETS in the pool area – If the health department sees it they will shut us down. 4) NO SKATEBOARDS or BIKES on the ramp or in the pool area. 5) NO RUNNING – our #1 reason to blow the whistle. 6) Parents are responsible for their children – please keep a close eye on them.
Long Range Planning and Capital Campaign Committees
The board created a Long Range Planning Committee following our annual meeting in 2016 and that committee has been actively meeting on a monthly basis. The purpose of this committee is to plan for the replacement of our current pool and bathhouse and make upgrades to our tennis courts, in a manner that will have the least amount of impact on our swim season or dues structure. These are necessary capital expenses driven by the age of our pool and the need to meet updated Fairfax County Codes. Several pools in our area have already undergone major improvements or pool replacements, often without a plan in place. We have an advantage in being able to plan, and having an active membership with great expertise and ideas. Current members of the planning committee include: Brian Wild, Jim Hohman, Matt Parks, Ryan Kennedy, Paul Trombley, David Larken, Nelson Lobo, Anna Lenhart, Malea Stenzel Gilligan, Dustin Young and Jennifer Spatz-Martin.
If you are interested in participating in this committee please reach out to Ryan Kennedy, firstname.lastname@example.org. We are specifically looking for any members who have experience with land use and property law and Fairfax County permitting.
Group swim lessons will be offered for children with our Swim Team Coaches as instructors. The program will focus on teaching children to be comfortable and safe in the water and to learn basic swimming skills. The children will be grouped by ability – Newbie (new to the water and have not taken lessons, generally 3 to 5 year olds), Beginners (confident in the water but have not taken lessons or are not proficient in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke), and Advanced Beginners (confident in the water and knows freestyle and backstroke basics but technique needs improvement). Classes are organized into groups of 4 to 8 children. The student to instructor ratio will be 4 to 1.
Each session will be offered from 11:30 AM to 12:00 NOON, and will consist of 8 half-hour classes taught Monday through Thursday over two weeks, with Fridays reserved as make-up days only if a class is canceled due to weather. Since children may be easily distracted, parents and siblings are asked refrain from being in the immediate vicinity of the classes. Session dates are on our website. Registration forms and more information are available at the Guard Desk and on the Club website. The cost per student per session is $65. Payment (by check to HMSTC) must be made prior to the start of a session. If you have any questions about the program, please email Carrie O’Hara at email@example.com.
Private Swim Lessons are also available from approved instructors. The program offers focused one-on-one instruction, and parent choice of instructor. The Club will post a list of approved instructors’ names to help parents identify and select the instructor of their choice. Parents will make arrangements and payments directly with the instructor. Costs vary depending on the credentials and experience of the instructor. Private lessons may be scheduled between 11:30 am and 12:00 noon on weekdays between June 18 and July 26, if the selected instructor is not teaching group lessons, but you must make arrangements with the selected instructor in advance. Parents can schedule private lessons for any other time as well, but to avoid crowded conditions and distractions it is best not to schedule lessons when the pool is very busy (3:30-6:30 daily). Evenings (6:30-8:00/9:00) are typically very quiet, as are weekend mornings when there is not a home swim meet. The Private Lessons can be scheduled through the September closing of the pool. Note: Swim Team Coaches are not permitted to give lessons when they are working with the swim. As always, lessons conducted for fee may only be conducted by approved instructors. Any other lessons for fee are prohibited at our pool.
