About HMSTC Tennis
HMSTC has 5 outdoor tennis courts which are open for use daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, weather permitting. Tennis courts are open for use only to members, and guests of members playing on the same court.
Courts maintenance:
Courts 4 & 5 were repaired extensively and repainted in May 2021, lined for tennis and pickleball, and are in great condition. The front courts 1, 2, & 3 were also repaired at the same time, but the plan is to have them completely resurfaced in 2024.
The tennis facilities should be treated with care and kept clean. Players and observers should leave with everything they brought with them into the court area. There are trash and recycling containers located outside the front and rear courts. Please use the tennis ball recycling container at the entrance to the front and rear courts for old tennis balls. Brush and squeegee brooms are available at the front and rear courts – feel free to use them to sweep or dry the courts, and place them back on the fence. The last player off the court is responsible for locking the gate.
Court rules and etiquette:
All players and spectators are expected to observe tennis etiquette. In retrieving balls or crossing courts, players will wait for a break in play. Refrain from being too loud while playing tennis as that distracts players on other courts. Children will not be permitted to disturb players. Pets are not permitted on the courts at any time. Bikes, roller skates, roller blades, hockey and skate boards are not allowed on the courts at any time.
Shoes: Only smooth-soled tennis shoes are permitted on the courts. Bare feet, sandals, etc. are not permitted.
Court reservation:
Courts must be reserved through the online reservation system, and may be reserved only by members. Playbycourt is a free court reservation system compatible on both desktop/laptop and mobile devices to reserve court time. Link to register and reserve courts:

Call 301-887-3116, or email support@ProsToYou.com with any questions.
If you are not going to play during your reserved time, please cancel your reservation as soon as you know, so others may reserve and use the court. If a person who reserved a court doesn’t arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, the reservation will be considered canceled. Parents of juniors (under 16) should reserve courts for their kids. Maximum time limits for play are 90 minutes for singles and 120 minutes for doubles. If a set is near completion, the players may, with the permission of those waiting to play, finish the set.
Courts are sometimes reserved for scheduled tennis programs (classes, tournaments, league matches). Information on clinics and league matches will additionally be displayed on the notice board and shared in newsletters. Please contact the Tennis Chair with any questions on schedule of programs.

Tennis leagues:
HMSTC participates in the following leagues currently. Please email the Tennis Chair if you would like to participate or lead any of these teams.
Men’s NVTL summer league: a round robin league for USTA 3.5 and higher level, played with other swim and tennis clubs around Northern Virginia. Matches are played between June and August each year, with each match having 2 single and 3 doubles lines.
Juniors MVCT summer tennis league: a round robin league for U18, played between 7 swim and tennis clubs in the Mount Vernon area. Matches have a total of nine lines: U12 boys, girls, doubles, and similarly for U14 and U18. This league is a great opportunity for kids to experience competitive play, represent HMSTC, build team spirit, meet kids from other clubs, and have fun. Kids who register for the team also get at least 2 practices a week with PTY coaches, and this overall program greatly helps improving the technical skills and mental strength in playing matches, and builds the platform for kids to potentially play tennis in high school and beyond.
Women’s tennis league: HMSTC has participated in various leagues in the past, and we should be forming a team for 2022.
Rec play, tennis socials, and ladders:
If you’d like to find tennis partners or a group to play with, contact the Tennis Chair, and we will try to set you up with other players at your level. We are looking at starting a singles ladder for tennis. Please contact the PTY coaches or the Tennis Chair for scheduling and participating in tennis or pickleball socials
